Western Wayne Urban Community Development is a Michigan non-profit corporation established October 23rd, 2020 as the successor to “Peoples Community Hope for Homes” a Michigan Corporation. Pastor John D. Hearn Jr is the CEO and life long resident of the City of Inkster.
The mission of Western Wayne Urban Development Corporation is to continue the work of its predecessor to foster, aid and assist in the planning, development, renewal, improvement of affordable housing in Western Wayne county.
Our program lends itself to the economic and social stability of the communities we serve. Our mission in Western Wayne County is to cultivate a vibrant and healthy community where people live, work and play. Our core values are ECONOMIC EQUITY and RACIAL JUSTICE.
By working collaboratively with local , state and federal governmental agencies, resources are brought to bare to effect the vitality of the neighborhoods of in need of revitalization.
Previous accomplishments of our organization carried out in the city of Westland Michigan include twenty nine (29) infield homes built in the Carver Subdivision of Westland
(check out the HUD article here). In addition, the development of a thirty four (34) unit Westshire Housing subdivision built for the benefit of first time home buyers on Currier St in the City of Westland.
These efforts brought stability to the housing market where homes values increased by twenty (20) percent. Quality of life was enhanced by the investment of the City of Westland in the establishment of a new park for the citizens and the construction of a new fire station.
Best practices certifications were awarded by Housing & Urban Development (HUD) at the federal level and Joint Public Services Award with SEMCOG.
The City of Inkster has lagged behind its neighbors in the construction and development of new affordable housing.
Western Wayne Urban Development is well suited to fill the need and provide the necessary housing stock to not only to add to the quality of life for its residents but to strengthen the tax base of the City as well.
The investment of resources through our educational system and scholarships given from various entities of the community in the lives of our city's children does not reflect the return received.
Surrounding communities benefit from the brain power exported from Inkster due the lack of opportunities in housing for the raising of families. The history of the City of Inkster's residents reflect the highest levels of achievement from individuals born and raised within its borders. The future holds even greater potential that can be only be realized through the proper investment made in its infrastructure for growth.
Western Wayne Urban Development stands ready with resources and a personal commitment to the City of Inkster from an institution with roots embedded in the city that are generational.
